AZDatsun Posted March 25, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 25, 2020 Any idea what the best way to strip these to prep for paint? The previous owner put on paint that is chipping and flaming away and I want to get it down to have a reliable base for primer. grannyknot Posted March 25, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2020 I used the spray can paint stripper and it worked well, the plastic is easy to nick so use a light touch.
cgsheen1 Posted March 25, 2020 Share #3 Posted March 25, 2020 When you use paint stripper, don't scrape - use a brush with firm plastic bristles. Yup, it's messy.
siteunseen Posted March 25, 2020 Share #4 Posted March 25, 2020 I used old toothbrushes and Kleen-Strip for plastic from Lowes. Took 2 go rounds and some light sanding to get back to original. Emory files worked for the sanding in the vents.
siteunseen Posted March 25, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 25, 2020 Just thought of soda blasting with an air gun. Google "diy soda blasting". $.50 a pound at the dollar stores and works good.
