September 8, 20213 yr comment_628219 There is no way the poly bushing will slide right in like on the video. Maybe, just maybe , if I use a press... September 9, 20213 yr comment_628269 These bushing aren't going in with the sleeve. The fitment isn't even close enough with a press. I even chamfered the bushing a bit. This is the exact same issue I had with the rear control arm misinformation. September 9, 20213 yr Author comment_628271 Is this a 240 or 280z? Not sure if the diameter is different. Also what brand bushing are you using? I think only Prothane makes them. The bushings are 31mm and the hole is 28mm. I even milled 1mm of the bushing and it still doesn't press in correctly. September 9, 20213 yr comment_628275 I found out they are actually made by Energy. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63768-transmission-crossmember-bushings/?&page=2#findComment-628275 Share on other sites
September 9, 20213 yr comment_628276 I spoke with Energy Suspension. Their bushings require the original outer sleeve to be removed. I wish these resellers would update their installation notes! Yarb, what brand bushing did you use? September 9, 20213 yr comment_628277 I also spoke to Prothane (the manufacurer) and their bushing requires the outer sleeve to come out also. I asked the Z Store to please update their installation notes! September 10, 20213 yr Author comment_628288 I bought the “Energy” bushings from ZCD for the 280Z. All I can tell you is they don’t fit without the sleeves intact. Sounds like the 240 has a smaller diameter sleeve. I have measurements I can pass on if needed. September 11, 20213 yr Author comment_628332 The outside diameter of the 280z bushing sleeve is 35mm Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63768-transmission-crossmember-bushings/?&page=2#findComment-628332 Share on other sites
September 19, 20213 yr comment_628724 It looks like I've convinced the Z Store to correct their installation instructions regarding retaining the outer sleeve. It no longer says to retain the original outer sleeve. Installation Note: When the factory rubber-in-sleeve bushing is removed for use with this kit, the inside mating surface of the Mount Bar MUST be cleaned, deburred, and smoothed, so there are no protrusions that may damage the urethane bushings. November 30, 20213 yr comment_632433 Was on the hunt for some bushing diameters for the trans crossmember and found this thread. Just to add my 2 cents to this conversation. I got the full energy suspension kit for my 280z and the instructions told me to retain the sleeves. I also send everything to the powdercoating guy and was a bit disappointed after I saw that I should´ve removed them on the front and rear control arm - but mustache and gearbox crossmember need to retain the oem sleeve. So seems that even in the same brand there are differences?! Maybe 240z/280z have different parts in the energy suspension kit. acc to the PN should be the same thou. Always measure and check it seems.
