April 19, 20204 yr comment_597490 According to the diagrams, that switch was used on the 2+2s. Present in 76, but not in 74. Don't know about 75. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63867-what-is-this-part/#findComment-597490 Share on other sites

April 19, 20204 yr comment_597497 I'm thinking that either someone added that to a car that didn't leave the factory with one, or the documentation is wrong and they put those on all the 78 cars regardless if they were 2+2 or coupe. Maybe they were offering that as an option in 78? Dealer installed? April 19, 20204 yr comment_597502 My '77 has something very similar and it is the alarm switch for the hatch. There's one under the hood and both doors. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63867-what-is-this-part/#findComment-597502 Share on other sites
April 19, 20204 yr comment_597505 Another day, another new cool thing to learn about Z’s. I would have sworn up and down that was a user added part for an alarm or interior trunk light “upgrade”. April 19, 20204 yr comment_597509 Bob's 1975 "museum car" has one and I thought it was added for an aftermarket alarm. Thinking about it, there is no other evidence of an alarm system. Looks just like the picture above and it's in the same spot. Guess I ought to check and see if it lights the dome lamp. May 19, 20231 yr comment_653742 I have one of those switches on the hatch jamb of my 73. The hole is in the lower right corner. I find a part number of 36011-89901 for a "Tail Gate Switch" in CarPartsManual.com..but I don't believe it to be the same. I can confirm that my car DID have an alarm system installed by Chapman Alarms, as the original owner (a friend of mine's wife) worked for them and they installed the system for half-price. Seems like it would have been a nice feature to have the dome light come on when the hatch was opened if it were an original switch for that purpose. As the parts diagram shows a switch for the "tail gate", I am going to check the wiring harness to see if provisions were made for such an animal (wiring was provided for an electric fuel pump, so it is possible) and what it would take to reinstall the switch I have. I'm way late for this thread, but was curious about the switch I found in my box of tricks...Ryals Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/63867-what-is-this-part/#findComment-653742 Share on other sites
