September 14, 20204 yr comment_605883 I have relatives in Colfax and fires there have threatened two of their homes and the farmhouse which supports their operation. In one case flames were within about 40 feet of buildings, but in all cases they are OK. One of the fires was in Colfax on the west side of town; the other fires included the one that took out the covered bridge, which is within 2 miles of the farm, in the same canyon. Info from them is sporadic because the power has been out in much of Colfax and all the residences except the farmhouse - and it's in a location where you have to climb about 300 feet up to a hilltop to get cell phone connectivity. September 16, 20204 yr comment_606011 We've got the hazy milky sunlight here at the eastern end of PA. I hope for the best for everyone dealing with the fires. No fun at all. September 17, 20204 yr comment_606079 Visibility is still around 1/4 mile here. We're supposed to get some relief from it in a day to a day and a half and then a bit of rain that should clear more smoke out. Until then, it's N95s. September 17, 20204 yr comment_606103 I should have gone to meteorologist school. It's beatiful here today! Thankfully it took a sharp turn to the east and petered out. We got some rain last night but nothing like the predictions were. Good for our friends at ZCON too. September 18, 20204 yr comment_606164 Thunderstorms and rain last night. That should put the hurt on the fires and scrub some of the smoke from the air. September 19, 20204 yr comment_606206 Great news, the rain cleared most of the smoke out. Kinda weird to see Portlanders celebrating rain though. It may be a once in a lifetime event. September 19, 20204 yr Author comment_606221 Yeah I'm almost glad to see people driving 50mph on the freeway in the far left lane again. Brakes on uphill. September 20, 20204 yr comment_606254 That's awesome. I was watching the news and they mentioned a line of rain that went through the PNW. Is everything still on fire, or did the rain help with that too?
