Pilgrim Posted September 14, 2020 Share #13 Posted September 14, 2020 (edited) I have relatives in Colfax and fires there have threatened two of their homes and the farmhouse which supports their operation. In one case flames were within about 40 feet of buildings, but in all cases they are OK. One of the fires was in Colfax on the west side of town; the other fires included the one that took out the covered bridge, which is within 2 miles of the farm, in the same canyon. Info from them is sporadic because the power has been out in much of Colfax and all the residences except the farmhouse - and it's in a location where you have to climb about 300 feet up to a hilltop to get cell phone connectivity. Zed Head Posted September 15, 2020 Share #14 Posted September 15, 2020 Another good animation of the smoke travel.
Captain Obvious Posted September 16, 2020 Share #15 Posted September 16, 2020 We've got the hazy milky sunlight here at the eastern end of PA. I hope for the best for everyone dealing with the fires. No fun at all.
siteunseen Posted September 16, 2020 Share #16 Posted September 16, 2020 Welp here we go in my part of this. Winds are high and gusting, rain for 24hr supposedly. Only wish I could send some @Mark Maras and @Zed Head way.

Mark Maras Posted September 17, 2020 Share #18 Posted September 17, 2020 Visibility is still around 1/4 mile here. We're supposed to get some relief from it in a day to a day and a half and then a bit of rain that should clear more smoke out. Until then, it's N95s. siteunseen Posted September 17, 2020 Share #19 Posted September 17, 2020 I should have gone to meteorologist school. It's beatiful here today! Thankfully it took a sharp turn to the east and petered out. We got some rain last night but nothing like the predictions were. Good for our friends at ZCON too. Captain Obvious Posted September 18, 2020 Share #20 Posted September 18, 2020 Site, Glad you're out of danger. Now I just hope all you guys on the west coast can do the same!
Mark Maras Posted September 18, 2020 Share #21 Posted September 18, 2020 Thunderstorms and rain last night. That should put the hurt on the fires and scrub some of the smoke from the air.
Mark Maras Posted September 19, 2020 Share #22 Posted September 19, 2020 Great news, the rain cleared most of the smoke out. Kinda weird to see Portlanders celebrating rain though. It may be a once in a lifetime event. 1
Reptoid Overlords Posted September 19, 2020 Author Share #23 Posted September 19, 2020 Yeah I'm almost glad to see people driving 50mph on the freeway in the far left lane again. Brakes on uphill. 1
Captain Obvious Posted September 20, 2020 Share #24 Posted September 20, 2020 That's awesome. I was watching the news and they mentioned a line of rain that went through the PNW. Is everything still on fire, or did the rain help with that too?
