texasz Posted June 4, 2003 Share #1 Posted June 4, 2003 How in the world do I remove these ugly things from my baby??? Here is a pic of the lower attachment mechanism. It looks like you need a key or something.
bryantatem Posted June 4, 2003 Share #2 Posted June 4, 2003 You just unscrew the louvers and then it will come off. The mounts are kinda just shoved under the weatherstripping. You can just pull it out. Use water and some dish soap as a lubricant and it will slide out easier.
mar2c Posted June 4, 2003 Share #3 Posted June 4, 2003 a flat head screwdriver works just as well.the louvers on my 78 came without a key (same type as what's on your car). I just use a screwdriver whenever I need to lift them.
PrOxLaMuS© Posted June 4, 2003 Share #4 Posted June 4, 2003 Louvers aren't bad...the give the car that classic look, and protect our interior from the sun, and reduces heat. whats wrong with em... just ugly?
texasz Posted June 4, 2003 Author Share #5 Posted June 4, 2003 A screwdriver it is then. Thanx for the help!!Why remove them?Personal preference. I have never liked louvers and therefore will be removing them VERY quickly. Not to mention that I have to take them off any way so I can replace the hatch glass seal.Furthermore, I will be autoxing this car so this is additional weitht I do not need.As far as keeping out the heat and sun, there is always window tint which I will replace (the old tint on the car has scratches in it and it has turned purple). Believe me, living in Texas I know all too well about heat and sun. Plus I used to manage a window tint shop years ago.I will gladly sell these louvers to anyone who wants them once I remove them from the car, otherwise they're going in the trash.
