Looks like the parts are from a pretty solid 240Z. Once this is finished, it would be a very large piece of wall art! Here's the CL link: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/pts/d/gardena-datsun-240z-wall-or-yard-art/7242306370.html Holy crap.....the rear quarter panel looks great.....worth $1,000.00.

All parts rust free.....only in California.....home of the silent electric vehicles!
Patcon Posted December 8, 2020 Share #136 Posted December 8, 2020 I agree on the quarter! The door was really junk because of all the bondo but one day soon junkie doors will be worth something too...

Here's the email I received this afternoon: 1972 Datsun 240Z Gevik Karimmassihi | Beverly Hills Car Club<gevik@beverlyhillscarclub.com> Hello Steve, Thank you for contacting us. This vehicle is available. We do not put the VIN on the website. 12785 is our inventory stock number. The VIN number is (HLS3056312). I sent a message asking if they had clear title. They actually sent me a photo of the title, pasted below. I'm guessing that they really think that it is a 1972 240Z. I wonder if they even know about the places where the VIN should be on the car. Or maybe Wisconsin has one of those "lost title" programs where you just fill in your own information. Supposed to be an automatic. Who knows what's really going on here, the digger you deep the deeper you get. The title was issued in 1992. Just noticed it has a 240Z radiator with the little shield. Even though it has AC magnet valves and should have a full shroud. It also has the full EFI intake system all the way through the air filter box, but missing the last little plastic snorkel. Quite a puzzle. I sent one last request asking them to send me a picture of one of the two VIN plates. Let's see what happens. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Datsun-240Z/224263144994?hash=item3437200622:g:HPAAAOSw3ZFfyTd8 Edited December 8, 2020 by Zed Head
Terrapin Z Posted December 9, 2020 Share #138 Posted December 9, 2020 I wonder if they would show you a picture of the VIN on the firewall. Not the dash, door, or fender well, those can all be changed easily. The firewall would have to be welded in.

If these were tacked on to a 76 it must have happened back when it was worth doing. Like 1992 when the car was probably nice. That engine bay just screams 1976. The rear shock towers. Might have to pore over the pictures a bit more just for fun. I can ask one more time. I showed them where to look, so I'll have to dig up a firewall VIN picture. Very weird. I do remember from not too long ago a hearty discussion about retagging Z cars. A guy down in Oregon said he does it all the time.
Terrapin Z Posted December 9, 2020 Share #140 Posted December 9, 2020 "Google" 240Z vin tags and it looks like the rivets are smaller and there is space between the rivet and the numbers. Examples below. The door jam looks more correct but again just need the right size rivets.
Zed Head Posted December 9, 2020 Author Share #141 Posted December 9, 2020 (edited) Here's another 72, from BAT, to almost bracket the blue bastard. I think you're right. Looks like somebody retagged a 76, the new tag doesn't even fit in the cutout area in the dash. I'll send a message tomorrow and see if they want to know for sure by checking the firewall. They might just be a consignment shop and happy to get rid of a potential legal liability. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-datsun-240z-152/ Edited December 9, 2020 by Zed Head
Zed Head Posted December 9, 2020 Author Share #142 Posted December 9, 2020 I'm obsessed. It's missing the car id plate. Of course, you'd remove that if you were rebadging as a 72.
Terrapin Z Posted December 9, 2020 Share #143 Posted December 9, 2020 (edited) From my collection, pics of 73 240's 6 digit vin plates, and a 75-76 280 which is embossed not engraved. It looks like a 280 washer bottle too. There is no mount surface for the ID plate. Odd 138310 is a re vin'ed 70 as a 73 rivets show the re tag Edited December 9, 2020 by Terrapin Z double pics
Zed Head Posted December 9, 2020 Author Share #144 Posted December 9, 2020 (edited) Can't really see quality control being so poor that Nissan would rivet through the numbers. When did the door handles and arm rest show up on the driver's side? And of what style. The blue thing has 76 door handles. I'll send those guys a message showing where to find the real VIN. Let's see how far the rebadger went. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-datsun-240z-141/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-datsun-240z-151/ https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Datsun-240Z/224263144994?hash=item3437200622:g:HPAAAOSw3ZFfyTd8 Edited December 9, 2020 by Zed Head
