Zed Head Posted August 13, 2021 Author Share #913 Posted August 13, 2021 Sounds cammy. The guy rolled the camera right over the 260Z but didn't say anything. Maybe it's a stroked L24. https://secureir.ebaystatic.com/cr/v/c1/usvvp-20191119/index.html?video=https%3A%2F%2Fvideo.ebaycdn.net%2Fvideos%2Fv1%2F2d35f92d17b0a4d48d412bb1ffffea3c&thumbnail=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ebayimg.com%2F00%2Fs%2FMTIwMFg2NzU%3D%2Fz%2FUAAAAOSwzHZhEbfM%2F%24_1.JPG%3Fset_id%3D8800005007&title=1971 Datsun 240Z Coupe Orange RWD Manual series
Johnz1971 Posted August 13, 2021 Share #914 Posted August 13, 2021 Would be a fun project if you could pick it up for less than 10k. Sounds like its missing most of the exhaust system...but it does run!
Zed Head Posted August 13, 2021 Author Share #915 Posted August 13, 2021 I sent the guy a message on eBay and he sent back a picture of the VIN from the firewall. Says that he thinks something rubbed on the ID plate and wore the paint away. He doesn't know what happened with the door. I suggested that he join CZCC and discuss but I think he's just a guy who came across a Z and is flipping it. You can kind of hear it in his video. Anyway, it looks legit, I think. The interior looks in great shape for a sun baked part of the country.

Because they are stupid. Over the years I have seen some pretty weird stuff done to Z cars. Like the white one posted here from Faceplant Marketplace with the hatch sealed up and the rear window completely covered. Imagine having to work on the inside of the taillight panel.

I think they might have been trying to make the z look like something it wasn't seeing as they changed the taillights, too. Or maybe they wanted privacy in the trunk for... sins. Sex or bootlegging, maybe.

Maybe a tree fell on the hatch/rear panel. Owner: "Dang it! A tree hit my car. Can you fix it?" Body Shop: "Yeah, but it will cost $5,000" Owner: "No thanks. The car's only worth about $1,500. Let me find some sheet metal and junk parts and see what I can do with it." Edited August 13, 2021 by SteveJ

I'm more understanding if they did it out of necessity, not aesthetics.

Have you ever climbed into the back of a Z? One would need to refer to the Kama Sutra to evaluate which positions would work. Even as a tall guy, I can ball up and get in the trunk, and that's already pretty close to some positions. Maybe it was owned by a contortionist couple with a kink for claustrophobic sex. Ha! What an image!

Since the door with the 260 badge is the same color as rest of the car, I'm guessing this was done several decades ago when they probably "all looked alike" after some kind or respray or repair.
