You have to wonder how many of these sorry looking cars are Katrina cars. Victims from one of the past hurricanes that may have sat for days or weeks in water before being salvaged.

Typically if they are flood damaged,  they say "water flood". Fresh water only worries me as far as the interior stinking or the motor full of water.

Salt water is a whole other thing!

I picked up this flood car a while back. It was originally covered in blackberries. This is after the seller had found it and cut the vines back.

He had bought the property at a lien auction and found this there. 

A 73 that had an F54 280 block, N42 head, and early 4 screw carbs. wide wheels and a number of other savable parts. 

The price was much better back then = free!!   No title as you might expect from this situation. 

          

That was a bargain at free, no matter when. Thats a $2000 car now! 😉

Posting this here at least in part to make sure as many people see it as possible - and keep me from buying it.  I've studied the pics.  Appears to be an original blue on blue car.  Seems to me like those are exceedingly rare.  Mostly complete.  Missing 4 speed trans and air cleaner cover.  Not a lot of rust.  VIN HLS30 02146  $15k so far.

Sheesh.  That makes no sense at all.   Any predictions on the blue one I mentioned?  It will sell tomorrow.  It is at $15600 now.  Transport to east coast states would likely be more than $1200.  Incomplete info in the listing.  No confirmation that it is numbers matching for the block.  Valve cover is correct for the early engine.  But, color of the paint on the block looks non-original.  Engine may have been rebuilt or replaced.  

Blue on blue, while not my favorite looks to be rare.  Probably not originally an automatic, given the manual shift lever laying there in the passenger compartment.  Found myself thinking of this car a lot the last couple of days.  Given my current 240z restoration is on year 4, and my 510 waiting for its turn in the garage, I don't want to buy another project.  Best to finish my existing ones.  I wonder if I will want to do another project after the 510...

I expect it will go for more, hard to say how much more but there are always last minute bids. snipers if you will. It does look like a lot of the correct early parts are there. I think it was a 4 speed as the pedals and shifter are there. I don't see anything "automatic" about it.  It seems to me the seller really does not know these cars well, as he was asked about the engine number and provided a picture of the casing number. I personally would have a hard time buying a car online without being able to look it over in person. It certainly happens all the time and some are pleased and some are not. Always a bit of a gamble. However it does look like a decent car, although it still needs a lot of work. 82000 miles?  look at the brake pedal rubber. 182,000 maybe. That would also explain the engine color = rebuild. Don't worry about me I am not bidding on it. 😀
