Rust is enough of a problem with Z cars and adding the de-icer makes things worse.

First - the body he started with was way to far gone for that shop to handle. Lots and lots of rust damage everywhere, but few pictures showing how it was “all” addressed. My fear would have been a lot of bondo filling small holes everywhere. Second the killer was the quality of the metal work done on the floor pan replacement. Pictures 812, 813, 815… That shop really did not know what they were doing, I wouldn’t touch that car... 😳😳😳😳😳

When i bought my 240z in 1998, for a few bucks.. it had a "bottom" made out of angled iron and a floor of.. both 2,5mm steel!! It was welded in on a few spots and made watertight with... glassfiberrrrr!! Terrible!! I took it all out and when i was done there was about 50 kilo's of steel lying on the floor! Now.. surprisingly the car was faster already hahaha!! (I made my own new floor of 1mm steel and it's still in great condition as it was all made with special steel.)
Zed Head Posted July 17, 2022 Author Share #1578 Posted July 17, 2022 Early low number Series(?)1 survivor(?) automatic 1970. Should be interesting. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-datsun-240z-90/
dutchzcarguy Posted July 17, 2022 Share #1579 Posted July 17, 2022 Nice original survivor with a little flaw.. 😮 Nice solution when you don't weld... A lot better than a smear of glassfiber.. (often seen..) And these beams, are they original.. look a bit heavy steel.. and do i see a weld in top left of pic in this beam?
bluez Posted July 18, 2022 Share #1580 Posted July 18, 2022 That frame rail patch is a scary sight, wonder what’s under it.. I believe original was 22 gauge, using screws is crap.. While most of the car appears original, who knows what’s hidden, pic #160 shows more questionable work.. But those hub caps are sure nice.. Yarb Posted July 18, 2022 Share #1581 Posted July 18, 2022 Looks like some fiberglass work on the frame rail/pan
bartsscooterservice Posted July 19, 2022 Share #1582 Posted July 19, 2022 @dutchzcarguyMine also has that typical spot, although welded, its not done correctly, should be welded flush so you don't see it. Its one of the things I need to fix when have some more time coming years. To busy with other projects right now

I would take out the whole piece and weld in a new part for sure.. but if you don't have a welder and want to clean it up a little you could do this with screws.. not allot better but better than a rusthole hey! I think he has cleaned out the rusthole, did some painting against rust and put that steel plate on there... with screws.. I've seen a original dutch car that had 6! patches of aluminum pop rivetted under the car and... all the chemical reactions totally destroyed the car! Reptoid Overlords Posted July 24, 2022 Share #1584 Posted July 24, 2022 '72 with a siezed motor, maybe a decent body for $4500. Something from a 1960's science fiction movie on top of the 4 bbl carb. https://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/cto/d/seattle-1972-datsun/7512539752.html
