Racer X Posted September 15, 2022 Share #1753 Posted September 15, 2022 (edited) A patina mobile. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-datsun-280z-83 Hey, it’s got a helical diff. Might be a good candidate for a full makeover if the price doesn’t get too high. Edited September 15, 2022 by Racer X

That if you had a 73 you'd trade it straight across for a 70? Because they both say 240Z on the outside. Trying to use those played out memes will drag you in to absurdity. Be careful. I think you missed the point @Zed HeadI wasn't talking about value but the name of the car on the the actual car. My 1970 and 1973 cars both say Datsun 240Z. Neither has a Nissan or S30 badge at all. What they are worth is what someone is willing to pay if I put them up for sale.

They should both have this badge, that says Nissan Motor Co LTD, and HLS30 (the S30 part) as the Type.
zspert Posted September 16, 2022 Share #1756 Posted September 16, 2022 This reproduction ID plate is a MESS! Just look at the type style, etc. Nissan Motor Corp wouldn't have found it acceptable for the Z Store program.

The point of my post was to show the word Nissan and S30 were on both cars mentioned, not to sell a shoddy plate. I just grabbed the first picture that came up on eBay. If someone was looking for a plate I would send them your way no question.
SpeedRoo Posted September 16, 2022 Share #1758 Posted September 16, 2022 @Terrapin Zas I mentioned the badges on the outside of my 1970 and 1973 both say Datsun 240Z. The later cars have 260Z and 280Z badges on the outside. I made no mention of id plates, just badges on the outside!

I quote the same line from your post "at all" Of course the 240s had a 240Z badge for 4.5 years, and the 260 had a 260Z badge for 1 year, and again the 280 had a 280Z badge for 4 years. The ZX had 280ZX badges until 82 I think then it said Datsun by Nissan, on the outside badge. It has always been Nissan Motor Co. Agreed, more pics would have helped raise the price. Wonder if $15k would have bought it.

This from the guy who claims to have never heard of one of America's greatest automotive authors. I'm talking about situations where the whole is being talked about, but the specific is being used. For example, a book published regarding the 'Maru Z', '270 Kaihatsu Kigou' project; The genesis, planning, design, engineering and putting-into-production of the whole S30-series range as seen at launch (S30, S30-S, PS30, PS30-SB, HLS30U, HLS30, HS30U etc etc) being titled 'Datsun 240Z Engineering Development'. See? Probably not... Happens all the time. Probably whizzes way over your head. S30 series is S30, even with all the different versions of it. A factory designation for a chassis series. Then came the S130. You are making a way to big thing of this Edited September 16, 2022 by bartsscooterservice

There is a separate one for 1971 and 1970. If the Owner Manuals are identical then the cars are probably identical. The Owner Manual features should match the car. It's really just stuff the BAT seller should have done. Sellers need to understand the potential customers. https://www.classiczcars.com/files/category/17-owner-manuals/ They show a 1970 manual but who knows where they got it. It's a 70 according to the door tag, sold in 71, titled in 71.

(would be spectacular when someone finds out the laquer under the plate is damaged only were the 1 has been hamered into it!) BTW... I'm just kidding... or AM I?? I ask myself: Are there more people with such a strange fat 1 in front of a "normal thin "1" or "2" ? It could be, but also not. Those tag plates where made in mass for 69/70/71 etc, then a stamping machine put the serie number and month into it. ( or it could be done by hand, maybe Kats knows this ) Edited September 16, 2022 by bartsscooterservice
