Did you guys go to the auction site and zoom in on the pics of that car, it's kinda rough, there's two spots of rust on the P/S rear corner, the panel gaps are all out, there is some weird paint cracking on the P/S front shock tower. No pics of underneath the car.

Went to the Philly Auto Show today and happened to see this car live and in the flesh at the Back in the Day Way Exhibit:

1977 Datsun 280Z | Classic Auto Mall

Probably was the highlight of the trip for me and favorite vehicle there, whereas my son's was the Rock's MXT Truck from "The Fate of the Furious."  The 280Z looks like it was local to the DC area (there is a Fort Belvoir, VA sticker on the bumper).  If that's the case, I would suspect there is some rust hiding underneath that undercoating and would want to lift up the carpets to see the floors before buying.  The asking price is a little eyewatering too, especially for a survivor and not yet completely restored 280Z.  Makes me feel a little better about having to put money into mine to fix my rust problems, especially if they do get the asking price.

Did you bother to read any of the auction details?

"Older 1980s restoration by St. Yves Motor Sales, with attention to factory details and specifications, using OEM parts when available."

So it was restored at least 35 years ago, and for their own collection.

Bart and HS-30H again hit the nail squarely on the head. "Restored" in the 80s with parts available at that time. I can't remember what wasn't available in the 80s and I was there. They bought a new air filter housing- available in the 80s - I guess to get the decals. Just a little research on their part would have unearthed reproductions.

Interesting that the Yves folks didn't set a reserve above the selling price.  Maybe they just wanted to move it on.

Based on past BaT results the 199 number should have brought more.  Maybe the low number obsession is waning.

The high bid was really $250,000? This wasn't a typo?

It's been $250K for a week maybe? They would have caught the typo.

From what I've read this car has Nissan upgrades and there were only around 420 built.

Better than stocks or gold. LOL

You can enjoy this investment.

Just to add to the conversation, Z432's are not well known outside of Japan. There's a pretty comprehensive thread run by @kats on this site that discusses all the differences between the Z432 and the standard S30 models.  The few that have sold in USA have historically traded in the $125k range, with more recent sales pushing into the $250K mark.  Jason Cammisa did a piece which featured the Z432 - search "Hagerty Z432" on youtube for more info.
