Z's on BAT and other places collection

It's already been through BaT before.  I almost asked why the guy was selling it if it was the "right" Z.  But, not really my business.

This 1973 Datsun 240Z is said to have undergone refurbishments in 1985 and 2010, and it was purchased by the seller on BaT in July 2022

Thank you all for viewing. I am offering this 1973 Datsun 240Z after owning it for two years, and getting a ton of enjoyment out of it.

I spent about a year searching for the right 240Z. I bought this one because the color is so unique, and the meticulous documentation that came with the car indicated the prior owner had taken proper care of it.

Some scary looking rust repairs done to the floor pans then hidden under thick layer of gravel guard.  Can't imagine BaT went for much of a reserve.

I had another look at the photo's.  Guess I missed those the first time through.   Upon closer inspection, I also noticed the poor fitment of the rear quarter patch panel.

The paint job and interior look pretty decent though.

I think the seller added more photos of the underneath after you read it.  It could be a very nice driver for sure but it really needs to go down to the shell and have proper floor pans installed to get rid of those "custom" pans.

At 210,000 miles probably a good idea to rebuild the engine and get rid of the Weber down drafts, if the price doesn't climb too much more I might bid on it myself, it's only 700 miles from me.

I don't think it's getting anywhere near $100k this time. Liquidity has been sucked out of markets and all classic car prices are down.

I wouldn't be listing without a reserve in this market.

No question this is a very very nice example. Still….this is a different market today.

First - it is NOT a Series I example. Won’t bring Series I money.

The question is how much will the non-original items on this 240Z hurt it.
Fog Lights - holes in the lower splash panel
Head Light Covers - holes in the fiberglass nacelles
Ash Tray modified
Faded carpet in the rear deck
Electric Fans at the Radiator (plus wiring and relays)
Wrong Fuel Pump
Wrong hose clamps on the fuel lines
Wrong Fuel Filter
Missing Battery Cover
Clutch Master Cylinder non-original
Non original muffler
Spark Plug Wires??? Should be original with this mileage but can’t tell

I thought that Series 2 didn't start until VIN 046000.

That said, this one seems to be a mix of S1 and  S2...

Series 1 equipment includes:  Type A transmission, with matching console; brake m/cylinder has large reservoir at the front.

Series 2 equipment includes:  Storage bins built into rear floor; no air extractor vents in hatch panel; horizontal defroster grid in rear glass.

The spark plug leads do appear to be correct, Yazaki, 1971 date coded with white labelling (not yellow as was used in 1970).
