Overhere a 12-'70 car is .... a 1970's car! it's made (so it says ON IT !!)  IN DECEMBER 1970! so from wich year is the car? 1970... but hey.. if you all are fine with calling it a 1971 car.. it's fine...  everyone his own quirkiness / oddity ! 

When i bought my Datsun 240z from feb 1971  (It says: 02/71 on the plate)  And i became a reg. for a feb 1971 car, simple..

 

This made me think of a special case here in the Netherlands..

A guy bought himself (in 2009)  a 300zx made in 1984 but was for years not registrated for a licenceplate. It had become one in 1988 but the car was from 1984.. As cars of 25 years and older became (road-) taxfree* in 2009 he wanted that too.. Normally he would had to wait till 2013 but as the parts in the car and serial number were from 1984 he became a new registration certificate! (License plate stayed the same  i believe)

Now the car was legal to pay no longer roadtax..  But it still was a 1984 car... (With 1988 license numbers.. as we have 
    here in the Netherlands consecutive numbers/digits on the license plate and when a series is full a new series starts)

 

* (Nowdays it's 40 years overhere as everyone started to drive old Mercedes diesel... and made a mess of the enviroment here!)

Model years for vehicles begin late the previous year. So a car manufactured in September, October, November or December of, say, 1970,  usually is sold as a 1971 model year.

 

Like this car. The door tag shows a 12/70 manufacturing date.

 

It is a 1971 240Z.

 

The seller is all wet.

 

To further demonstrate, my 72 Z was manufactured in 11/71. That doesn’t make it a 71.

Looks the same like they did with the chevelle im doing here now. Cut out the old and overlay...  That's not the way it should be done🤪.

That's not how things are done today.  As somebody pointed out above, the model design is completed and built in the latter half of the year preceding its introduction to the market.

The only question here is about what Nissan was doing in December of 1970.  Are the 1970 and 1971 model year designs identical?   If they are then a 1971 is a 1970.  And a 1970 is a 1971...cause they're identical.

If I was selling on BAT I'd just put the VIN in the title.  That's what the collectors look for anyway.  One of the commenters tried to place the VIN in a model year range but it's been discussed many times that the VINs could be produced out of sequence in the early years.  Who knows.

It's HLS3015316.  The funny thing is that the error, if it is an error, generates interest.  Too bad it has that huge dent in the fender.  Looks like something large and heavy fell on it in the garage.

The answer is probably in the Owner Manuals.  There is a separate one for 1971 and 1970.  If the Owner Manuals are identical then the cars are probably identical.  The Owner Manual features should match the car.

It's really just stuff the BAT seller should have done.  Sellers need to understand the potential customers.

They show a 1970 manual but who knows where they got it.

Here's one of those Owner Manual things.  Nissan defined one as 1970 and the other as 1971, apparently.

It's interesting that my late 70 build, 1971 Z came with the green 70 owner's manual.

What type of seat belt do you have?

 Going by memory it was the one in the black and white photo. Most of the 20+ years I drove it, it had a five point racing harness in it.
