Ha Ha! That's a reach even Stretch Armstrong would struggle to achieve. And the car in question was in fact not built by Mr Spike Anderson. Built with 'his blessing' might be more accurate. I believe it just sold for 50.5k GBP plus 3.03k GBP in fees, and is now on its way to a new owner in the USA. It'll need an extra 40ft sea container to ship all the nonsense written about Samuri Conversions over the years. The under tray - aka splash pan - was not standard equipment on the North American 240Z’s. Although a few early cars did arrive with one installed - don’t have any accurate number for how many… However some people ordered them over the DATSUN PARTS Counters and installed them personally . Somewhat like the manual throttles. Somewhat like the manual throttles. I thought the manual hand throttles were removed upon arrival into North America due to DOT requirements? I didn't know that the undertrays were 'optional' that strikes me as a bit odd, as far as I know every AU market delivered 240z had them new. It's more a case that today they are nearly always missing - due to being removed and not refitted. In Australia we got the hand throttle up through 71 until the console change over - although automatic cars didn't receive them. Only manuals. He carried tools with him all the time. Did it at the ports of entry. Jumped up and down on them a few times just to make sure. A few might have got through when he was having lunch though. This works for lots of other inexplicably missing items too... December 1, 20222 yr comment_647721 Splash pans appeared in a hit or miss fashion on the 70 and early 71s. Later Z cars all had one. We saw a VERY FEW hand throttles on the early Zs. I also saw hand throttles on the odd Volvo and MB as well. December 1, 20222 yr comment_647722 Incorrect outer deck lid seal. Should be one piece. The 3 piece style appeared much later. Those guys in Japan tried to get 'Fairlady Z' emblems past him too, but he headed them off at the pass. Real men don't need no pesky splash pans.
