October 22, 20213 yr Author Popular Post comment_630340 Smaller project knocked out last night. My headlight/wiper combo switch wasn’t looking so great, and I had an intermittent headlight issue with the switch itself. So, decided to pull it completely apart, polish and restore the plastic bits, clean up contacts, and new terminals on the harness. Works great now. October 25, 20213 yr Author Popular Post comment_630446 Been working on the little details and getting very close to completion for the build. Drove the car around the neighborhood a little today. Once I get the back half of the exhaust made up and installed, I can dial in the carbs and rack up some more miles on the break in. November 4, 20213 yr Author Popular Post comment_630921 Some of the final details completed. Original hubcaps were cleaned up and painted. For being used on the Z for so long it’s amazing how clean they were. Dash area is just about wrapped up with only a few minor items left. November 4, 20213 yr comment_630976 I’m the original owner of 12023, which undoubtedly came over with your car on the same boat, which I bought on December 7, 1970 (!) at Wally Tucker Datsun in Bakersfield, CA. After letting it sit for 20+ years I’m finally getting around to restoring it. A couple of questions: Where do you source the braided hoses and OEM hose clamps? And, let me know when you want to sell this. Beautiful build! Braided formed hoses came from various suppliers, MSA, ZCarDepot, and JDM Car Parts. For cut to length hoses “JBugs” sells them by the foot at reasonable pricing. As far as hose clamps I got lucky, I only needed to source 4-5 of them that were not on the car when I bought it. The ones I did need came from my personal stash/eBay. Shoot me a PM if you’re interested in the Z. I am down to a few days of work left on it before it’s “done” and ready for some shake down miles. Can’t wait. November 5, 20213 yr Author comment_630988 Got the reupholstered sun visors back today. They look great! The original frames were used to create a “hardback” style of visor, similar to what is done on newer cars. Now they’ll never droop or have foam deteriorate again. November 8, 20213 yr Author Popular Post comment_631200 Got the Z back from the exhaust shop last week. Guys did a great job on the system, very happy with the final results. With that complete, I was able to dial in the carbs and get a few miles on the Z as we complete the shake down process. Being 50 years old I am amazed how tight and smooth this Z is cruising down the road. Much nicer of a ride than my "survivor" '72. Am.. i.. gonna say... something about it... I don't think they did a good job.. the damper is to long and had to be installed on a angle and... and.. now it hits the bottom of the car.. (at least it looks like it's on a angle?) Does the exhaust not make a clunking noise against the reserve wheel thingy... whatever it's called.. ? 🙄 Your car has become a beautyful car and now there is a crummy exhaust under there..(sorry again but i took a day and ask myself if i had to say this and yes...... i sayd it.. 🙊) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64674-restoration-of-hls30-12070/?&page=18#findComment-631439 Share on other sites
