Voltage Regulator Cover

I'm looking for un-obtainium, and willing to pay the market rate.

Wanted the milky-white plastic cover that fitted over the voltage regulator. I had one, and it was my pride and joy, as I had only seen 2 or 3 cars with one. I brought my car to an Auto Electric shop for a diagnosis, and I guess the technition thought it would just pop off. I watched in horror as he grabbed my rare cover and tore it off.

You can see one in this photo

So what you really mean is that the technician is willing to pay the going rate. If not, you might have to insist. This is a prime example of why I hate to take my auto anything into someone else. It always seems to come back scratched, oily, or in some other way screwed up. You'd think people would take some pride in their work...

Hope your day goes well!

Chris

Not asking for much are ya Victor????:ermm:

I haven't seen one of the plastic covers in many years.. the last time I saw a cover on a VR at all was the later metal cover.... I though I had one of the metal ones, but so far can't seem to locate it in the "Little shop of horrors".....

OK, now I have to ask: you are saying that the later covers are metal and the early ones are plastic? The one on my 11/69 car is metal, which implies it has been replaced with a later one, right?

Victor,

I believe I have one (plastic VR shroud). It is off of my 1970 (3/70). I am now using an interrnally regulated alternator, so let me look through my stuff tonight and I'll let you know about it tomorrow.

I'm not sure which came first, metal or plastic as I've seen so few, but I believe the early cars had the plastic ones.

If I remember right, many years ago they came with the VR, but it all depended on the brand of VR you got.

I've seen more of the metal ones, as they didn't crack and disintigrate like the plastic ones....

Well, from what I see, the fiche only lists one part number for the VR cover up to 7/73 (24027-E4100). It doesn't, of course, say if it's plastic or metal, but if Bambi's have all been plastic, then I guess I'd assume it was plastic. Any other early car owners that know if yours is original want to confirm as well?

Victor,

If you don't find the plastic VR cover, and

I am also in search of one, you might check with Banzai Motors (www.zzxdatsun.com) as I believe that part is on the drawing board for one of there next reproduction parts. It may be a while before they have it in production.

Let me know if you find more than one.
