November 20, 20204 yr comment_610793 I believe it has to do with turning on the second set of points under certain conditions, for cars that have two sets of points, like auto's. BE-5 in the 72 FSM shows the relay doing this job, but not its location.Ā Edited November 20, 20204 yr by zKars Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64746-unknown-relay/#findComment-610793 Share on other sites
November 21, 20204 yr comment_610795 Could it be an early version of a Neutral safety switch? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64746-unknown-relay/#findComment-610795 Share on other sites

The FSM says that is located on the driver side fender well.Ā Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64746-unknown-relay/#findComment-610796 Share on other sites

Ā Jim, ask your friend to clean the wires and identify the colors of the wires/stripes. The FSM shows that there is something branching off the wiring going to the wiper motor, but it fails to say what that branch is going to. Also, see if he can take a closer photo of the relay. I can't quite make out the part number. And after searching the interwebs and digging through the wiring diagrams, I found the answer...on this website:Ā https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/36059-372-240z-automatic-transmission-what-part-hooks-to-this-connector/Ā Ā Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64746-unknown-relay/#findComment-610801 Share on other sites
November 21, 20204 yr comment_610802 From the 73 FSM...since the prior year FSMs don't document this circuit worth a darn. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64746-unknown-relay/#findComment-610802 Share on other sites
November 21, 20204 yr comment_610803 Yup. That's what I found in the '73 FSM. Got to be it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64746-unknown-relay/#findComment-610803 Share on other sites
November 21, 20204 yr comment_610806 My buddy's 73 has a different shaped relay in the same spot. I can't recall its function but we traced it in the harness and found it in a wiring diagram and determined it was not needed. November 21, 20204 yr comment_610815 The ones I have seen mounted there are more shaped like the horn relay long and skinny, not square like this one.Ā It also had a short pig tail on it rather than the plug right on type like this one.Ā I too was under the impression it was for the auto metic transmission models, possibly to do with the duel points.Ā That relay looks like the one from under the dash on my ZX (pic) May have been changed out at some point? November 21, 20204 yr Author comment_610822 The owner will be away from the car for a week but did have a closeup pic of the relay. I can get 25230-89918 and R3-11 visible #'s.Ā I noted there are two black/yellow and two green wires visible. Beginning to lookĀ like the diagramĀ in @SteveJĀ post #7.
