Posted January 11, 20214 yr Popular Post comment_614242 My kids picked up a 3D printer over the holidays, so I thought I try to figure it out and learn how to use it. I just happened to be replacing the rubber wipes on the door window trim, and noticed there were no end caps. Not sure if this is how the car came, or just went missing over the years. I downloaded FreeCAD and started to play around with it. After a lot of youtube videos, I was able to design and print some caps. Haven't installed them on the car yet to confirm the overall fitment, so hopefully no issues. I used PLA filament for the sample pieces (it's the only one I have at the moment). If these work out, I will pick up some ABS filament and reprint them. Didn't realize how useful it would be until my kids picked one up. I also ended up making a blank plate to fill in where the fuel light would go on the center console. There's a few more things I have in mind to make, but this will be for another time. January 11, 20214 yr comment_614245 Can I get the STL file? 😬 if you end up printing ABS your going to need to get an enclosure for it, ABS does not like temperature fluctuations. I build mine out of some wood and put a plexiglass door on it, it’s been pretty effective. I upgraded the feeding mechanism on it too, it was worth the money the prints look way better. https://www.amazon.com/Creality-Printer-Upgrade-Capricorn-Extruder/dp/B07V5VJ29X/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=3d+printer+upgrades+ender&qid=1610345402&sr=8-10 Edited January 11, 20214 yr by heyitsrama Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64939-door-window-trim-end-caps-3d-printed/#findComment-614245 Share on other sites

Will look into this for sure as I do plan on printing with ABS. I'll send you the STL file via PM. 260zDoorTrimEndRH3.stl 260zDoorTrimEndLH3.stl Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64939-door-window-trim-end-caps-3d-printed/#findComment-614249 Share on other sites
January 12, 20214 yr comment_614281 https://www.yeggi.com/q/240z/ Good source for printer files. I've printed the plastic clip for retaining the chrome bezel on the door pull of Datsun 260Z and 280Z, 1974-78 and part of a cold air intake. August 19, 20213 yr comment_627242 Hi YZFMax, would you be willing and able to sell a set of the end caps? I’ve been searching for them for several months and would be very happy to buy a set. Many thanks in advance for your consideration. Unfortunately I don't have access to a 3D printer at the moment, it's with my son who is away at school.
