Hello

As I mentioned in my initial post, my newly acquired 72 240Z is mostly original. The previous owner did switch out the alternator for a more powerful 60 amp version and he installed a new radiator, but an incorrect one (no shroud.) He included the originals in the sale.

I am having the original alternator rebuilt and the original radiator recored. My question...Is there any reason that would prevent me from reinstalling these original (but refreshed) items.

He also added the blue NGK plug wires. Excellent wires for sure but the blue just does not look right to me. I see black wires from Taylor sold by some of the parts vendors. Same question...any downside to switching?

OBTW...car is running fine right now.

Thanks

Jim

With the stock alternator, you will need an external voltage regulator.

The blue NGK wires don't bother me, but then again, I find that NGK makes good products, so quality is valued over aesthetics.

I had a black set of black plug wires, but switched to NGK blues after hours of going down a trouble shooting rabbit thinking I had a fuel delivery/carburetor issue.

For me, function and reliability is more important than aesthetics.

I was previously using the blue NGK wires and had no complaints or problems. In getting my car ready for ZCON a few years ago several of my knowledgeable friends recommended I switch back to black wires for an improved appearance. I went with the Denso black wires from Rockauto, no ignition problems with this excellent product.

+1 on the black wires and Denso as the replacement! Colored wiring in the 240z is a no-no for me too----but I'm a bit stodgy that way.

I use the original Sumitomo, but they are much more difficult to find.

Glad to hear the Z is running well---it sure looks great!

Got a name for your new addition to the family yet??? 🙂
