Options for engine fresh air ducting

I was wondering if there are some alternatives to the OEM air ducting that goes from the radiator section into the body cavity. I was thinking that a 3” brake duct tube might work, it would just be a matter of figuring out some mounts for the chassis.

 

anyone do this before? Or have a set for sale 😐.

 

maybe I’ll have to listen to captain’ and start working with composites.

@AZDatsun Pretty close! But there are these accordion style “fresh air ducts” that push air from the front through the body cavity and into the cabin. They are almost in the same spot as that intake.

These are what he is looking for - my OE one's on the bottom and on top the repro's I purchased years ago.

I’ve seen those; $200 is so expensive for that piece. 😔

i saw this online, but the mounting still has me a bit confused, it looks like a 3” duct can be used. 

I should have gotten into the rock collection hobby instead.

Just realized that I got confused by the title.  "engine fresh air ducting".  Engine's got nothing to do with it, right?

If a person really studied why Nissan put all that work and parts in to creating a special path for the air to the side vents...they'd probably still end up not understanding.  If you ran a tube up the cowl air source, where the fresh air for the heating/cooling system enters, you'd have high pressure fresh air directly to the vents.  Might not even need the large diameter because it will be pressurized while driving.

That's exactly what they did starting in 77. They went back to vents on both sides (as opposed to 75 and 76 which only had the vent on the right side) and changed the intake location from the front of the car to inside the cowl area instead.

Just another reason why 77 is better.

Alright $12 bucks for 28" of 3in ducting. This was the cheapest that I could find online. Might have some extra to use on the airbox.... The mounting solution is still up in the air.
