280Z Steering Wheel Restoration

Has anyone attempted to restore a 280Z steering wheel? I've seen plenty of 240Z wheels, but the only mention I can find of a 280Z wheel is from 2004. I'm thinking of stripping it down to the bone, then wrapping it with layers of fiberglass, topped by a cover.

I did a mahogany wheel out of 12 parts very dry wood in 2007.. still in my 240z i just drove today.. 😉   You need some handtools and a router (milling machine handheld..) and a circular saw (buzzsaw)  and some standard milling tool accessoires.

You get this:

6 parts in front and 6 in the back. Incl the 7-8 layers of lacquer it took me about 36-38 hours..  totally worth it!  Copied the fingers on the back from a orig wheel and used a powerfile to make them.. and lots of sanding.
