Posted May 20, 20213 yr comment_621884 Has anyone attempted to restore a 280Z steering wheel? I've seen plenty of 240Z wheels, but the only mention I can find of a 280Z wheel is from 2004. I'm thinking of stripping it down to the bone, then wrapping it with layers of fiberglass, topped by a cover. May 20, 20213 yr comment_621887 I did exactly that. Didn't have a real plan going in but figured it out as I went. There's a lot in my thread starting here: It was a lot of work, but worth it: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65403-280z-steering-wheel-restoration/#findComment-621887 Share on other sites
May 21, 20213 yr Author comment_621913 Not sure why I didn't find that on my search, but that looks fantastic! I will be happy if I can do that in 30 hours, but I'm lacking in the home-ec seamster training. May 21, 20213 yr comment_621921 I did a mahogany wheel out of 12 parts very dry wood in 2007.. still in my 240z i just drove today.. 😉  You need some handtools and a router (milling machine handheld..) and a circular saw (buzzsaw) and some standard milling tool accessoires. You get this: 6 parts in front and 6 in the back. Incl the 7-8 layers of lacquer it took me about 36-38 hours.. totally worth it! Copied the fingers on the back from a orig wheel and used a powerfile to make them.. and lots of sanding.
