IGNORED

I am an Idiot.

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure about the boot I put some in and I think some came out from the boot but the boot apears to have a small hole in it for grease over flow I have to get a flashlight on it. Hmm if I have split it are new boots available?

I consulted the guy who supplied them and he believes that it could be the steering rack bushes causes this "new" noise either way I should replace them with the harder poly sort and he thinks I will notice the difference.

At the end of the day If I have screwed them up I will just have to live with it and get new ones. I'm wondering though if it's worth getting those ones at Rare Spares for half the price or if I go with my gut instinct and get the expensive ones???

Experience has always taught me pay good money u get something that has been put through a good quality system.

Gav240z,

Yeah you are right about the hole theory some do come with the air hole in the boot to spot them bursting at the bottom. Dont even think of the cheap ones, I saw some that where in two months and they where flogged out. The dry graunching sound is normally a dry uni and when that dry noise is associated with a skipping motion thru the lock both ways is a stuffed one. Are you sure your rack mount bushings are stuffred are there bits hangign out get someone to turn the wheel while you look also listen for th noise I bet its at the strut base.

cheers

Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for the advice on parts. I feel going authentic OEM is the best solution in most cases. Let's face it they were made for the car and they have the best quality as far as I'm concerned paying a bit extra will not bother me if it means buying something that will last.

I think that's half the problems with cars is that replacement parts that are used by some people are just not up to scratch. To me it's like buying a fake Rolex watch and a real one. Sure they look the same hell they do the same thing and even if the original is overpriced it's because of the cheap imitations and the fact that it has a reputation for making good quality products.

END RANT ROFL .

Cheers

hahahahahahahha well I've never had to grease nipples before. Touch , grab, fondle you name it but grease well never. It's a new concept to me but I think I've got the hang of it.

Just don't suck on them and I should be right unless I like the taste of grease.

Never mind. I see you bought ball joints. Sorry.

I suspect that part of the difference is that he is in Australia and quoting prices in AU dollars, not US dollars. May also have purchased higher quality parts that what Kragen sells. There is a vast difference in quality and price of parts out there between OEM and various aftermarket suppliers.

I have read that alot of those parts that do NOT have the grease fittings are that way to give a lifetime of service.Let me explain. If you add air to your tires each time you change the oil just because you felt they may need it ,they will wear due to over inflation. If you hit the grease fitting's in the same way you will blow out seals and cause early failure.Like you said all it took was two pumps. How long does that take to wear away?.Stick to the manufacture's rules. Those quick lube places are real bad about grease overload.Ujoints will die.

Thanks Daniel I understand what your saying I will still give my ball joints a quick pump or two.

Bambi is right about both situations being in AUS genuine Z parts are a bit expensive as we got less Z's here and I could have got the cheapies but I wanna build this car right and not have to replace parts again 6 months later because I skimped out and spent $40 less on each side. It's just not worth the hassle for me I find it difficult enough to get time to work on my baby  . I would really like to spend more but if I'm not studying I'm at work if I'm not at work I'm relaxing oh well soon it will be over and I'll get a fulltime job :classic: .

Probably won't get more time to work on the car LOL one of life's wonderful things.
