how large are the file sizes on these cds? if they are not too big or if any of you have high speed internet connections, we should set up a web site where people could just download the factory service manuals. this would make it much easier for people who cant afford near $100 for a book to fix their z cars.

Is a book from 1970 still under copyright? I think a normal copyright is 17years, with one or two renewals available, but I don't really know. Anyone really know what the copyright law says about books like this? There are plenty of old books already in the public domain due to the expiration of their copyrights.

I've downloaded music from the internet, but only old jazz stuff that is well past it's copyright.

The FSM's are available on CD for $69.99 from Courtesy Nissan. That is not too bad IMHO. There is a wealth of information in those manuals. If that is too pricey for you, watch eBay and you can get used hard-copy manuals cheaper.

Or you can just keep on sending your car to someone who doesn't care for it like you do, or on breaking parts, installing things wrong and wasting your time and money on stuff that doesn't solve the problem that you are trying to resolve. It's your choice.

Spend a little, Save a lot!

Just my $.02

Not much sense in paying Courtesy 70 bucks for the FSM on CD, when you can a new FSM from Andy Russell for 72 and take it to the garage with you.... I know, you can always print a page from the CD, but then you'd end up with a book wouldn't you?:ermm:

z@datsundude.com He can get most all the years as far as I know.

I agree completely. I wouldn't want an FSM on CD, I prefer the "old fashioned" book but the "Threadstarter" was bemoaning the cost of the CD's.

Fortunately I have a 72 and a 73 FSM in addition to many other manuals (Chiltons, Haynes, Autobooks, etc) that I'll never let go of.

I kinda like the idea.

How many of you 240 guys have a 5 speed? an L28 ? fuel injection ? What about those with a turbo donated from an 81-83? anyone else with pieces of a ZX in your car ?

Instead of buying the FSM to cover the 5 speed tranny, AND the turbo, AND whatever year model you happen to own, wouldn't it be nice to be able to pick and choose the stuff that was applicable to your car ?

One of the main purposes of this board is for us to help each other keep our Zs on the road, right?

I have the 78 FSM on CD (purchased from Courtesy Nissan). Each chapter is its own pdf file. the largest file is just over 5 mb.

I also have the microfiche CD, but I would encourage you to spend the money on that one instead of downloading it. It helps the board out !

just my .02
