If he's like my dad he kept paperwork going back decades Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623537 Share on other sites
June 15, 20213 yr Author comment_623538 I would doubt I’m sure he changed insurance since the 70’s but I can ask. I don’t want to ask too many questions because I don’t want him to think I’m trying to buy it Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623538 Share on other sites
June 15, 20213 yr comment_623541 Maybe go the dumber way and don't try and sneak around? If it's important to you be straightforward and get all the info you can. Just saying $^!# or get off the pot. June 15, 20213 yr Author comment_623542 Not sneaking, I told him I’m interested in the car story and would like to know where it’s at since he always talks about it so he wouldn’t have an issue giving info but I’m sure he’s not going to go head over heels to just know where it’s at since all he expects is just what it’s doing vs what I’m actually trying to do. If it gets to a point where we aren’t getting anywhere that’s when I’ll really dig deep on service shops it’s been to and stuff Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623542 Share on other sites
June 15, 20213 yr comment_623553 Maybe I'm pessimistic, but unless the car left Pennsylvania for a dryer, snow-free climate, it is likely a basket case by now. June 15, 20213 yr Author comment_623554 Fully prepared for that. Even if it made it out of PA it could still be rusted through. If I can’t find the original one or if it’s too rough I’d probably be looking in the used market but that’s in the future Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623554 Share on other sites
June 15, 20213 yr comment_623555 Quiz him on what was good about it and what he would have changed if he still had it. Then go find one like that. June 16, 20213 yr Author comment_623557 Every time he talks about it he says how easily they rust he likes blue which his was but also likes black and dark green.  So seems like rust is just the biggest thing I feel he’d be fine with even a roller no drivetrain if it had no rust Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623557 Share on other sites
June 16, 20213 yr comment_623558 No original early S30s in black. Any black one's you see are repaints. Is he married? If he is elicit some help digging through potential paperwork Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623558 Share on other sites

He has most of the paperwork for cars going back to the late 70’s till now, has a whole folder in his cabinet dedicated to his bricklin, mustangs. He even still has his first car 1960 thunderbird with 11k miles and has everything down to light bulbs just not the Datsun for some reason Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623560 Share on other sites
June 17, 20213 yr Author comment_623631 Got a few updates, was just bs’ing about the car and he ordered one new from the dealer in silver because he thought it was sharp whole story behind it they sold it out form under him that’s how he got the blue one. He loved the blue a lot  and somewhat the green but not the most favorite. He has my uncle looking for the vin but very little chance since the month my uncle owned it he got divorced and in a bad accident and didn’t really drive it.  He said if he could he search for one and fix it up if it didn’t have rust but i was very pushy on getting the one he had.  I found out the wheels that were on it also that he liked so that’s atleast some good news. If we can’t find his I may need assistance finding a somewhat rust free car that could even use alittle work Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623631 Share on other sites
June 17, 20213 yr comment_623641 Assuming someone has registered it online there are a few sources. However, this does not tie into any national DMV database. It's all voluntary registrations. VIN registry put together by @Carl Beck :  http://zhome.com/IZCC/ZRegisters/ Also we have a thread started here:   Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65509-help-find-long-lost-240z/?&page=2#findComment-623641 Share on other sites
