Posted July 14, 20213 yr comment_624990 Rookie mechanic looking for a pro tip. Got the brass shifter bushing kit from MSA (sucks that you have to file material off to make them fit) and can’t get the pin back in. Many attempts at this blind process. Any ideas on how I can line up the shifter fork holes and holes in the bushings? Any ideas on how I can line up the shifter fork holes and holes in the bushings? You did use some sort of grease on the pin and bushings right? That helped me a bit. I got the plastic ones from zcardepot sadly, and the pin was a pain to slide in. Wiggling it around taking in and out to make sure its going in right helped me. July 14, 20213 yr comment_625006 The factory bushings are available at the local Nissan dealer's parts department. Might have to wait a day or two after ordering them. Not expensive, fit right, and stops the rattle. While you've got everything apart, replace the shifter end bushing on the bottom, too. July 14, 20213 yr comment_625007 I used the bronze door pin bushings on both my cars. Easy to get and cheap. Tightens up the shifter a lot too. https://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/shifterbushing/index.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65590-shifter-pin-irritating/#findComment-625007 Share on other sites
July 14, 20213 yr comment_625008 My post wasn't helpful. On the blind hole alignment - there are no tricks., except maybe to surround the area below with a rag or plastic so that when you drop parts they can be easily found. Wait until you try to get the clip on after you get the pin through.
