Putting in a replacement L-28

I agree. It's a "clickity" sound not the "tangity" sound from exhaust leaking. A short piece of hose for a stethoscope would be helpful locating the source.

Thanks for the tips. I have only done a cold valve adjustment so I need to get it hot and do another adjustment . The engine has less than 30 mins run time on it so I’m slowly exercising it. Yesterday the oil pressure gauge looked low to me. The scale on the gauge goes 0-90psi. The needle was sitting around 30psi. Not sure yet if this is correct. Could be the sensor which is a ZX version (2 spade connectors vs 1 bullet). I made an adaptor plug to got from bullet to spade and left on spade fitting empty. Maybe that’s the issue.

On idle the pressure seen on the meter can be very low.. It's a known problem.. 

To be sure you can always look under the oil fillercap during idle, but look out.. the oil can jump out the opening a bit.. If the camshaft is oiling good the rest is also good.

Oil pressure rule of thumb is 10lbs for every 1,000 rpm. So ten pounds at idle is plenty, at 7,000 rpm 70 to 80 psi is fine.

A good quality (read Stewart Warner) mechanical gauge is best.

 

 

For the diamond pleated covering, a heat gun helps to get it formed and stretched over the irregular shapes of the tunnel and floor.
