Posted October 31, 20213 yr comment_630759 Hi Guys, 1977 280z. Just got back from a drive and I can’t get the rear tail lights to turn off even when the car is off and the key is out. The headlights and side markers turn on and off as expected, just the tail lights are having an issue. Not sure what fuse this is linked to, but I tried pulling a few to see if I can turn it off to no avail. 1. Any idea what fuse tail lights are linked to so I can at least get them off so they are not running down the battery? 2. Any advice on where to start with troubleshooting? October 31, 20213 yr Author comment_630764 @Patcon good call, it was the little rubber stopper on the brake pedal that engages with theswitch. It disintegrated. Put a shim in it until I can get a new one. Not sure what they are called though lol. October 31, 20213 yr comment_630765 You'll need to find a longer bolt. The part is 46518-21000. It is NLA. I'm surprised that Steve Nix hasn't made a reproduction. @nix240z Is this something you might be making in the future? I didn’t see a bolt in the pedal or on the floor, but it might have shot out when the rubber part failed. But I can find a new bolt. October 31, 20213 yr comment_630775 Glad that worked! Why can't the switch be threaded in some for the time being? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65992-resolved-tail-lights-stuck-on/#findComment-630775 Share on other sites

I don’t see it in your diagram. This is what it looks like with the piece missing This is the rubber piece that popped out, it’s missing a backer piece which holds it in place. This is what it looks like glued in as a temporary fix Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/65992-resolved-tail-lights-stuck-on/#findComment-630778 Share on other sites
October 31, 20213 yr comment_630779 It's plastic rather than rubber, but machts nichts. As a temporary fix, you can tape a quarter over the hole until you get a replacement plug.
