Posted November 4, 20213 yr comment_630922 when i'm reinstalling my fuel pump after rebuild is there a need to go over or under a cam in the block or do you push it straight in. i'm asking because it's not feeding fuel to the carbs and i don't believe that the pump valves are installed incorrectly. any help is appreciated. November 4, 20213 yr comment_630923 You just push it in and wiggle it a bit. If there's lots of resistance your on a lobe and if it slides right in you are between a lobe. Either way, it'll start pumping as soon as the engine spins. To rule out fuel flow disconnect the line between the carbs and mech pump. Have a friend crank the car and watch for fuel flow. A bucket is handy at this point. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/66001-mechanical-fuel-pump-reinstall-72z/#findComment-630923 Share on other sites

November 4, 20213 yr comment_630927 Also, aftermarket mech fuel pumps seem to work for 0min to 30min on average. This isn't an issue if you are using your original pump. November 4, 20213 yr Author comment_630941 right, got it. just curious, if i remove the valve cover will i be able to see where the pump arm rests inside the block? Thanks again. November 4, 20213 yr comment_630944 That'll work, but it could get "pumped" and still not flow fuel. Checking the line after the pump is the best way to know if it is working. November 4, 20213 yr comment_630949 I feel your pain. I went through all this a little over a year ago. I ended up with an electric pump by the tank.
