Anyone remember the brand name “HeathKit”?

It was also known here in the Netherlands!  I personally didn't have any kit from heathkit but i remember adverts from them in electronics magazines in the late '70 and '80's !

I did have some kits made, but they came from VELLEMAN  a Belgian brand..  still have a remote laying around from that brand!

My Dad building Heathkits and his Amateur Radio hobby led to my career as a Industrial Electrician / Electronics Technician. When I was very young, I used to pick out the correct components so that he could assemble (solder) the kit. I learned to solder myself at age 10 by taking apart old radios. I think the coolest Heathkit that my Dad built was a Heathkit / Thomas transistor organ. He built it for my Mom in the 60's, and I still have it. It doesn't work as good as it used to, but someday I will go through it.

There's a newer cleaner version of that. I've tried to make it work for me, but it just won't stick. I always revert to that old school version.

And yes... I'm not color blind, but I bet when everything is brown, brown, lighter brown, tan, darker brown it makes it hard to figure out what goes where!  LOL

I never heard a different version.  I was always amazed that someone came up with this one.

Well wadda you know... There's even a wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_electronic_color_code_mnemonics

And there's even a category for "Offensive - The following historical mnemonics are generally considered outdated and should not be used in current electronics training:"

That works for me... I don't think I'm going to be teaching any classes anytime soon.

I learned to take engines apart by taking apart our lawnmower. Boy was my dad pisssed.

I found out the hard way that lawnmowers run faster without the governor, but that the increased speed comes with a price. BOOM! 🙄

Haha!! I learned that same trick from a neighbor kid with similar mower model. Thankfully, ours survived the brief higher RPM jaunts without the boom. We used to race against eachother in his driveway when all the parents were away.

The green one looks broken where it went on the coil. the little brass ring.

I'd still be interested in the rest of the bits, Jim.

It’s all yours for the price of shipping. Including the main box if you want it.
