[2022] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?

Okay, it was Caffeine and Chrome time again. The 240Z wouldn't start, so I jumped in the 260Z to meet my friend, Paul, who drove his Black-Gold 280ZX. (I still think he needs to do the 80s 'stashe and 'fro to complete the look.) The Georgia Z Club will be the featured club at the next Caffeine and Chrome, so I used that to coax a couple of people to come out this month to check it out. This month we had 2 240Zs, a 260Z, a 280Z, a 280ZX and a 300ZX (Z1). Next month I'm hoping the missing generations show up.

Looks like a 66 Impala in the background.

Takes me back to when I had a 66 SS396 Impala. Big block, Turbo 400, posi, smoked the tires down to the cords real quick.

I miss that car.

Scored new in box Interpart Mulholland shocks for the 240Z on EBay. Had been searching a few years for some fronts and up pops a set of front and rear. Will be great with the full BRE suspension setup I have.

From what I remember when I was thinking about building up my e31 was the cut cams used the valves from the 2.8 zx heads. p79, p90, not sure about the n42 or n47. @Diseazd would know for sure. You'll need shorter valve seals too.

I've got all the stuff just not the time to do it. Maybe I'll have a long cold winter and turn my kitchen into a machine shop?

Found these on ebay 10 or more years ago, a must have from all I've read.

Edit secret: you can get the cam kit a helluva lot cheaper straight from Schneider. Sorry msa...

I wouldn’t use the Schneider cams, only the reground original cams ground by Isky or some other regrinder. There have been metallurgical problems with the blanks ( not Schnieder’s fault ). You can use the early L28 valves, but you’ll have to install new seats. You are correct on using shorter seals if the lift is over .460 inches and comp springs (prevents stacking) and correct lash pads (.160 to .180). I highly recommend the Stage III Isky regrind .490 lift…..it ain’t that radical. You can get their springs and lash pads too when you mail them your original camshaft for grinding.

I have one of those. Couldn’t justify the extra cost of the pneumatic version my head builder has.

The Georgia Z Club had a Gumball Rally today. The grey weather left over from Nicole may have kept some people away, but we had seven Z cars and one Maxima show up to participate.

Here are the typical rules for the GZC Gumball Rallies:

  1. Navigators are not mandatory, but they are VERY helpful.
  2. There will be trivia questions based upon various landmarks on the route.
  3. Directions will be confusing...but hopefully correct.
  4. A prize will be awarded to the team/person with the most correct answers. The tie breaker will be guessing the correct distance of the route.
  5. The club will not necessarily send out search teams for lost participants, but we may notify your next of kin. We have been known to put photos on milk cartons, too.

All participants showed up at the destination. The Maxima team won, probably because the driver was smart enough not to be the navigator for her husband and doubled up to have both of her daughters as navigators.

(Note: One of the 370Zs parked out of camera shot at the end.)
