fusion Posted January 10, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2022 Has anyone powder coated or painted the hatch or door locks? I am going to paint my chrome/stainless trim black on my 280z but didn't know about the locks, especially the hatch lock, given the fact that it pushes in. grannyknot Posted January 10, 2022 Share #2 Posted January 10, 2022 Well they are stainless steel so you would have to roughen up the metal with at least 120 grit to get anything to stick. But with keys they are probably going to chip pretty quickly, especially the rear hatch lock pushing in and out so much.

But i think it's going to be difficult.. Maybe this, .. there is some chemical that is used for passifying steel that gives a black end result.. but i don't know if this works on stainless steel! You could test it i guess.. 🙂 (could be a nice endresult a matt blackish lock!)

Roberts280Z Posted January 11, 2022 Share #7 Posted January 11, 2022 I powder-coated everything black, except for the locks. I assumed that the process (including the necessary prep work) would ruin them.
