The weight of my first '73 240Z was 2380lbs. (about a half tank of gas)

L24

Dual '72 SU's (round-tops) carbs

A Header

Alloy wheels

Complete coverage carpet (Tranny hump & Strut towers)

Smog pump removed

No Air Cond.

To lighten you could...

go to a fiberglass front clip.

Strip all but the absolutely necessary interior

lose the bumpers

Plexi rear glass

Sorry, can't help you with the other question.

All engines should weigh the same amount. The l28 is just a bored and stroked version of the L24 as far as I know.

Any difference would be very minimal however the 260z's had alot more accessories in the engine bay for AIR con etc...

Unless your building a race car you shouldn't really wanna strip the car's weight to much if you ask me. It's probably cheaper to increase horsepower than to try lighten the car and get the same results.

Depends on what u wanna do with the car. Just my opinion.:classic:

G'Day Malder,

According to my Haynes manual;

Weight unladen;

Manual gearbox,

240Z =2350 pounds (1043kg)

260Z =2499 pounds (1134kg)

260Z 2+2 = 2669 pounds (1210kg)

Automatic transmission,

240Z =2400 pounds (1089kg)

260Z =2509 pounds (1134kg)

260Z 2+2 =2670 pounds (1215kg)

Unfortunately, there is no mention of the weight/s of the 280Z.

Hope this is of some assistance to you.

Rick.
