Howdy all, I am the 2nd owner of a '71 20. The original owner was fanatic about this beauty and religiously used lead additive when running un- fuel. ROFL Is it necessary? The car will be living in Massachusetts for a while and I can purchase 94 octane at the corner sunoco. Will the higher octane solve the problem of no lead? I'm not sure I understand purpose of the lead additive. The silver bullet is originaly from Cali, then Az and has no emission control type equip.

There is a small discussion of lead fuel additives in the Engine forum - search lead additive. Basically lead is good for the older cars without steel hardened valve seats and valve guides. Use a high octane fuel always. If you know you have hardened valve seats and guides, don't use a lead additive.
