March 20, 20223 yr comment_637422 There might be numbers and/or letters under the dirt. Tokico puts a number on theirs. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/66483-name-those-springs/#findComment-637422 Share on other sites
March 20, 20223 yr comment_637432 I get excited when I see yellow springs. KW makes my favorite suspension. I don’t recognize yellow springs other than racecomp. Total toss in the dark but can you tell if they were painted perhaps? Maybe scratch near the end to see? I’ve seen it done before 😅 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/66483-name-those-springs/#findComment-637432 Share on other sites
March 20, 20223 yr comment_637434 Maybe these Vogtland ? I guess they are in many colors available, look for the name in the middle of the spring.. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/66483-name-those-springs/#findComment-637434 Share on other sites
March 20, 20223 yr comment_637441 Kind of a stab in the dark but the Mulholland springs I put on my 240 back in the day were yellow. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/66483-name-those-springs/#findComment-637441 Share on other sites
March 20, 20223 yr comment_637443 I would start simple... Are you sure they aren't stock with overspray from a previous paint job? And if for some reason you are convinced that they are aftermarket, I would start simple... Which of the aftermarket versions are constant pitch (not variable rate) and are long enough that they don't leave a gap when the strut assy is off the car like in your pics. Some of the aftermarket stuff is so short that it results in a gap when the wheels are left hanging. It doesn't appear to be the case with what you have there. March 20, 20223 yr Author comment_637453 All good suggestions and comments. I am a simple man. I like simple things. I wish this rear suspension was simple to get apart. Nothing but trouble so far as you can tell if you look closely at the picture. Heading down to my shop now to see if I can get those half shafts out, then the axel's and backing plates. Wish me luck... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/66483-name-those-springs/#findComment-637453 Share on other sites
March 20, 20223 yr comment_637454 Thanks Jim, trying to pull out of this food debacle from the ball field. Be careful with that spring compressor. I know you’ve done this many times as I have but it’s just as scary as the first time you tried it!! thanks, Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/66483-name-those-springs/#findComment-637454 Share on other sites
March 20, 20223 yr Author comment_637477 The rear springs are powder coated, cleaned one, no markings that I could find. The fronts look like the stock black springs. Will get the springs off the struts tomorrow and have a closer look. March 21, 20223 yr comment_637486 I found some yellow ones in Australia. https://www.ebay.com.au/b/Coil-Springs-for-Nissan-Datsun-240-Z/33582/bn_7019833571 and Summit, but they aren't specific on vehicle. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/afc-25225-3?seid=srese1&gclid=CjwKCAjwoduRBhA4EiwACL5RP1FKAFgrHQZEuWSVT8JZyqMnHkertyDdfGfUFJhOg00yDEjZ945UjxoCWMgQAvD_BwE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/66483-name-those-springs/#findComment-637486 Share on other sites
March 22, 20223 yr comment_637538 Back in the day (early 80's) a company called Turn Six sold yellow springs. I have them on my '76. All that I can remember about them is that they lowered the car about an inch. I do not remember the rates. March 22, 20223 yr Author comment_637548 Finished disassembling the rear suspension as far as I need to go with it. For anyone pulling the axles, the shop manual shows using a slide hammer, tried it with a big one - the axles laughed at that attempt. Put them on a press... and they came right out.
