June 18, 200321 yr comment_41235 Chances are your little plastic bushes in the shifter between it and the pin have worn, these are easily replacable. They slot in between the shifter and the pin that goes sideways through it. The little plastic cup on the end of the shifter may also have gone.I am at the moment turning up a little set of bronze ones (well I got the bronze rod) I will let you know how it feels on the bench, as I don't have a car for it to go in Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/6649-what-tranny-do-i-have/?&page=2#findComment-41235 Share on other sites
June 18, 200321 yr comment_41294 Royce: A good point about the A series boxes.I shoud have clarified that only the 5-speed A series' used the flange output (and incidentally the 240Z's they were fitted to had a 2-piece tailshaft). All the short 4-speeds (510/610) and long 4-speeds (US Z) have a yoke output.Another thing to note is that all the yokes are the same throughout the gearboxes (A, B & C). Along with the 3-speed auto's.But the 4-speed auto's (4N71B) have a larger output shaft.Gee: Remove the gearstick & check it out. Z-Kid is 100% accurate in his probable causes for sloppiness. June 19, 200321 yr comment_41328 Awesome! I'm redoing the interior of the car at the moment so the console is out right now. So I just pull the stick out and have a look on the end do I? June 19, 200321 yr comment_41329 The most likely cause will be the bush that is in the middle of the stick, you pull out the stick by removing the pin and sliding up, there should be a bush here, but chances are there isn't one anymore. Its a bush in the hole where the pivot pin goes through.
