Hi

Well as you know my 240K is auto (:dead:) and I've been looking to swap it over but have to get my hands on a good box first (gearbox).

I've had an offer from a guy with a Bluebird 5 Speed, from what I know it will fit onto the L24 engine, but does anyone know if it will be the right length etc. for the stick to poke out of the right bit inside my car?

Or should I just keep waiting for a real 240K box :disappoin

It's like the "which head is best" discussion a while back, I had to try so hard not to make a comment which was inappropriate.

As Alan said though take the measuring tape and check it out. The early Z boxes as far as I know were slightly different the rest should all be the same and interchangable.

Good Luck.

Alfadog,

be careful, there are Bluebird boxes and Bluebird boxes. Due to the local build and import mix in the Bluebird range in AUS you are going to find a mix of boxes all called five speed. In your case may I recommend that you source, either B series Z box or B series K box as you Know the two boxes have diffrent ratio sets, but you should end up with a box that will match your car and tail shaft spigot and not cause problems. Dont rule out all those Skyline boxes that came behind the L series engines in the 80's.

Cheers

Yes it's from a series 3 bluebird, not a 1600.......

But yeah I think I'll just keep my eye out for a "proper" gearbox, chances are the ratios will be more suited to my car.

Thing is I don't have a clue about all the different boxes available and all the ratios of them. If I did I would make a website to display it all as it can get very confusing...

The B series box is significantly stronger and more durable than the A series which is what a 240K would have I think. The later the B series box the better as various improvements to it were made along the way. But all of them tend to spin the bearings in aluminium casings.

I'd agree with the Skyline box recommendation, the Pintara box was similar. Don't know about fitting and ratios.

LOL ! Pass the parcel!

Thanks for your support guys it's great... Alan, where is Dandenong? Gareth, do you know what kind of condition this gearbox is in? (would hate to ask you guys to go out of your way only to get a gearbox that needs a full rebuild...)

It just amazes me how supportive this place is...
