Bluebird 5 Speed

Hi Lauchlan,

The Bluebird box was behind a 4 cyl so strength wise won't be good enough if you have plans on increasing HP at a later date & R30 Skyline came with what they call a stumpy box so length is a problem, but a Z & K box is ideal.

Ratios are different, you should have a 3.54:1 diff so the K box makes sense. If you go for the Z box make sure you get the one with 3.29 1st gear & not 2.9 otherwise the car will be sluggish off the line. ( 240K has a 3.6 1st gear)

Don't forget that you need the flywheel, clutch kit, pilot busch, slave cyl, clutch master cyl, & the 2 pedals, oh & the shifter (hopefully it comes with the G/box).

Good luck.

Nick.

I've had an offer from a guy with a Bluebird 5 Speed, from what I know it will fit onto the L24 engine, but does anyone know if it will be the right length etc. for the stick to poke out of the right bit inside my car?

Or should I just keep waiting for a real 240K box :disappoin

I have a 240K 5 speed manual gearbox in my 240z which i will replace at some point with a Z item.

240K boxes cant be that hard to find, can they. Or have all 240K in junk yards been crushed by now.

Alfa the gearbox in my 240z is very rough synchro wise and I'm coming up to holidays in the next few days which I plan on doing alot of work on my car and spending the $$$ on it.

As you know I have a spare 240k box which I'm glad I didn't sell just yet I really wanna sort out this GBox in my Z in the next 2 weeks and I have a spare 240z box aswell that isn't exactly mine you see I sold my old 240z and the guy a friend of mine who bought it didn't take the engine and gbox yet. His plans were to turbo the car so I'm not sure if he's even interested in those bits and pieces.

My point is I'll try fix the problems with my car over the next 2 weeks and I'll let you know then If I can part with it.

It was rebuilt but it's the ratio's that arn't the best for Z's.

I'll keep ya posted.:classic:

PS: If it turns out I can part it out for you I'll take it down to Alan in Dandenong :classic:

Having just bought a gearbox bearing kit for the box which came attached to a FJ20DET engine, which gearbox is identified as a FS5W71B (late) and as far as I can tell is a high spec box, the following Nissan models are identified as compatible.

280C, 280ZX, Bluebird, Gazelle and Skyline. Year models available on request.:geek:

No sorry I kept the carbies as spare and they were rebuilt currenly my moronic step father did some sanding and now they have saw dust in them which will need to be cleaned up.

There is a guy who has a couple of sets and is willing to ship them.

is his contact.

Alfa I have 3 gearbox's one in the car = stuffed or appears that way. Synchro wear I believe.

1 that's the 240k box that i had rebuilt.

1 that's with the old engine out of my 240z which technically does not belong to me and I might try to buy back as it were.:classic:

Bloody hell, slight correction to my last post. It now turns out that the FJ20DET box is likely a C series, not a B. Which probably makes it a FS5W71C which I think is the same box used in the R31 Skyline and all Pintara's.

The internal differences, not considering ratios, are slightly higher capacity needle bearings for 1, 2 and 3 gears and a different front countershaft bearing, in the C box.

So, if I've got it right now, the R31 Skyline and the Pintara C boxes should be the most durable, and given the less power/weight of the Pintara, all things being equal a Pintara used box should be in the best condition.

what if the box does not bolt up

I am not up on the Pintara boxes as I do not know the engine series they are using is it Z 20. I do Know that the R31 Six is an RB series and I was told that the RB and VG series engines will interchange boxes, because the attach patterns and imput shafts match. How does that go with the L series And Z series.

I think this is an issue as well, just becuase if it can go wrong it will.

cheers
