Posted April 2, 20222 yr comment_638886 Im reassembling a 78 280Z that came to me in boxes and I have two brackets that I cant find locations for. Please take a look at the pics and let me know if you know where these parts belong on the car. Thanks! April 2, 20222 yr comment_638891 I believe the second is the mystery part Ferg has been referring to on the right rear suspension Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/67378-mystery-parts-location/#findComment-638891 Share on other sites
April 14, 20222 yr comment_639339 The second part connects at the lower differential mount. I have a photo before I did my suspension resto. It is supposed to have rubber or plastic covering the face of it. Don't ask me its purpose, I have zero clue haha. April 14, 20222 yr comment_639345 I see a little cable "hook"on it.. suggests that there could be something electric installed on it.. on the 4 "bolts" ?? Fuelpump? April 14, 20222 yr comment_639370 The first one looks like a heat shield. Engine bay, exhaust area most likely. Looks like it has nuts attached so it would match clear holes. The round cutout probably fits around something round. April 15, 20222 yr Author comment_639371 Thanks for the info! The suspension one really confuses me but I guess it has a purpose. I still cant find the location of the first one. Engine bay makes sense but I can't find it! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/67378-mystery-parts-location/#findComment-639371 Share on other sites
April 15, 20222 yr comment_639372 The first one is part of the HVAC system under the dash. It's the bracket that the heat control valve stuff bolts to. If you can deal with the blurriness in this hoovered pic, it looks like this: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/67378-mystery-parts-location/#findComment-639372 Share on other sites
April 15, 20222 yr comment_639375 I think the bracket below the moustache bar is part "42" in the fiche "Assy protector member transverse link" (part No. ). April 15, 20222 yr comment_639383 I was thinking the same thing. Possibly to protect the tank during assembly. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/67378-mystery-parts-location/#findComment-639383 Share on other sites
April 16, 20222 yr comment_639403 I would think it is to protect the tank from ripping open on that big bolt in a rear end collision. On the side where the tank is taller. April 17, 20222 yr Author comment_639422 Great info! This car was converted to a factory AC car so the first piece must be left over from the original heater box. The tank collision idea makes sense. Thanks to all for the help! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/67378-mystery-parts-location/#findComment-639422 Share on other sites

Actually the non-A/C cars don't have that bracket at all. That bracket only exists on the A/C cars because they have additional parts that bolt to that bracket that the non-A/Cs do not have. Not that it matters, but... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/67378-mystery-parts-location/#findComment-639423 Share on other sites
