Wally Posted April 27, 2022 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2022 I have seen lot of posts here....many seem to say all car covers can scratch or damage car paint.... I have to move my car by trailer. Cant seem to get a covered car hauler.... So i am wondering if there are any car covers that might prove useful while transporting a car?
Popular Post 26th-Z Posted April 27, 2022 Popular Post Share #2 Posted April 27, 2022 My experience with car covers on open trailers is that the wind will billow the cover and cause it to rub / slap against the paint. I wouldn't recommend using a cover for that purpose. 1
siteunseen Posted April 27, 2022 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2022 I learned that pulling my race boat to Kentucky one weekend. Dulled the gel coat along the lines. Not too much trouble, just had to get it buffed out. $200? and it was good again.
Patcon Posted April 27, 2022 Share #4 Posted April 27, 2022 Wax it good before it's loaded and wash it when it gets there. You are asking for buffing damage to ship it covered. Also the paint is much less tolerant of damage than fiberglass would be...
texasz Posted April 28, 2022 Share #5 Posted April 28, 2022 I absolutely 1000% agree with @26th-Z!!! Do NOT do that, you will not like the results.
CanTechZ Posted April 28, 2022 Share #6 Posted April 28, 2022 Is this a one time move? You might consider shrink wrapping if someone offers that service near you. https://www.atlanticshrinkwrap.com/2019/04/30/i-need-to-ship-a-car-can-i-shrink-wrap-it-pasadena-maryland/
siteunseen Posted April 28, 2022 Share #7 Posted April 28, 2022 (edited) I bought a leather couch in Atlanta and brought it home then had to leave it in my garage until I built an 2nd floor deck. Long story. Anyhow for the drive back home from Atlanta I wrapped it with shrink wrap I bought at Home Depot. Worked great and cost maybe $20 or so? Maybe you and a helper could do your Z from front to back so it wouldn't blow off. Just a thought but it might work? Av8ferg Posted April 30, 2022 Share #8 Posted April 30, 2022 Boat storage places wrap boats. My brother does his every year for winter storage. Might be a good option but you won’t be able to get in or out of the car and that will be a problem for the trucking company. They typically want a operational car that can driven on and off the ramps. Unless you car is a contours vehicle I wouldn’t worry about it. It will be fine. A few days in the weather won’t hurt it. Sometimes the medication can be worse than the disease. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Richard McDonel Posted May 30, 2022 Share #9 Posted May 30, 2022 Personally, when using an open trailer I like some sort of barrier across the front. It stops any direct hits from stones or other road debris, which are the things that can damage your paint and glass. It won't protect you from air turbulence, but that's minor compared to front-end hits. My own open flatbed is a leftover from my racing days and has a full-width storage bin across the front. Works just fine.
