Bit of a wiring rookie here.  I found a Harada semi-automatic antenna on EBay as a replacement for my current antenna (broken mast) and have a question about the switch wiring.  My current antenna has a 3 pin connector to the switch wire with Blue/Red, Blue/White and Black wires.  The new antenna has a different type of connector and just two wires, Blue/Red and Blue/White.  My plan was to connect the two switch wires for the new antenna to a 3 pin connector that I purchased so I can use the original wiring that runs to the switch.  Am I right in thinking that the Blue/Red and Blue/White wires on both antennas would serve the same purpose?  Also, I'm not sure what to do about the lack of a Black wire on the new antenna.  Is this a ground wire?

Here are pics of the new antenna and the connections for both new and original antennas.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have.

 

 

Your OE antenna switch has three wires: one for power into the switch, the others for power out to the antenna. Your FSM wiring diagram will identify the wire colors. One antenna lead is to power the antenna up and the other is to power it down. The OE antenna is grounded through the body to the car's body via the mounting bracket. Check the wiring diagram on the new antenna to confirm how it functions. Does it also self-ground thru the body? Do the two leads power the antenna up and power it down? Try a bench test on the new antenna to confirm how it functions. Many aftermarket antennas are designed to automatically power up when the radio turns on and then automatically retract when the radio is turned off. If the new Harada functions this way it will be tough to use the OE antenna switch.

Yeah, the new antenna has 1 power up and 1 power down wire against negative on the chassis..

so you should be able tho use the harada HA11D!

(i know because the 280zx also uses harada antenna..)

Thank you both for the help, going to get it installed this weekend.  My old antenna worked great until the day that I forgot to lower it and someone or something bent the mast.  It's been bugging me ever since then.  It's gonna be great to have a working antenna again.

Tell me about it, i forgot to lower it when i drove the car in the garage.... under the 4 column lift..  cracked... Grr 🤬  (But i do have a spare and ... not gonna install it because i make that fault easely again.. put it in there when i sell the car..  )
