What transmission fluid is best? I have 1978 280z. I made another post about how to remove the infamous fill plug. But never actually asked what fluid to use. I’ve heard good things about redline MT90 but when I look online for it all i find is full synthetic, not sure if thats the right fluid. Any pointers on the best?

The best fluid is one that meets the specifications in the FSM. You don't say if you have a manual or automatic. For the manual, it's oil that meets GL4 specifications. For the automatic it's Dexron.

I have a manual transmission I’m taking a guess something like this thats GL-4 would work?

MT-90 is the best I've ever found for the Datsun trans.

Down in Arizona I have had several transmissions for different vehicles over the years rebuilt by a specialty shop called Hayes Transmission. Funny enough the only manual transmission fluid he swore by was an OEM KIA fluid. UM090-CH036. It is 75w-85.

I run it in both my 4runner and 280z, and both transmissions work like butter. I would like to mention that the 4runners transmission was rebuilt and I put in MT90. The shifting was very choppy and drove this for about 6k miles. Finally listened to the tranny mechanic and the KIA fluid turned it to butter. 

Honestly though, most all GL4 manual transmission fluids should be fine in the proper weight. 

AC Delco or GM transmission fluid comes highly recommended for these transmissions. The part numbers are AC Delco USA p/n: 88900399 or GM USA p/n: 12377916

That or the Redline MT-90 (75W-90)
