Popular Post Silver-240Z Posted October 15, 2022 Popular Post Share #1 Posted October 15, 2022 Hey guys, just picked up a beautiful condition 73 240Z last week from a friend who's selling most of his classic cars. The Z has been upgraded with the 2.8L engine and 5-speed transmission and with some after market wheels that are about to be replaced next week with Konig Rewind 16x7 wheels and 215 55R 16 Kuhmo tires. Even though the car is in excellent condition I would like to have it inspected by a Z specialist here in the Los Angeles area. I've noticed the rear right side of the car is a little lower than the left rear. Perhaps saggy spring? Also Once the car is mechanically inspected I'll look to replace the seats and the mirrors with more OEM/time period pieces. In the meantime can someone recommend a good Z specialist in the Los Angeles area (not OC)? Thanks!
DatsunZGuy Posted October 15, 2022 Share #2 Posted October 15, 2022 (edited) Nice car. Interesting to see the engine was change to an L-28, but smog equipment from an L-24 has been retained. I would recommend Sam's Datsun in Winnetka to have a look at your car. He's one of the last of the breed mechanics that worked for a Datsun dealership during the period. He's priced fair and no gimmicks. https://samsdatsunsfv.wixsite.com/winnetka Edited October 15, 2022 by DatsunZGuy URL added

Once they are mounted I’ll take the car into Sam Datsun and have him give the car a complete inspection. Thanks for the recommendation!
DatsunZGuy Posted October 16, 2022 Share #4 Posted October 16, 2022 Given the engine is not stock and smog exempt due to age, you may want to look into removing the excess emissions plumbing. It makes for a less cluttered engine bay. You get bonus points because the old owner fitted a series-one air cleaner housing on your car 👍
Silver-240Z Posted October 17, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted October 17, 2022 Wow that’s good know. Thanks! Btw I’m gonna change all the fluids in the car as the last owner only drove it around 100 miles last year. What type of engine oil, oil filter, and brake fluid do you guys recommend? Silver-240Z Posted October 20, 2022 Author Share #6 Posted October 20, 2022 Had my car inspected by Sam at Sam's Datsun today. Other than the rear springs the car passed with flying colors. Sometime next week a set of Konig Rewind 16x7 wheels with 215 55R 16 tires will mounted on my car. I need to decide if I need to replace the current springs with inexpensive Eibach's or go all out and spring (no pun) for some coil-cover camber kit. What do you guys think? 26th-Z Posted October 20, 2022 Share #7 Posted October 20, 2022 And last but not least, make sure you top up your wiring smoke and blinker fluid.
DatsunZGuy Posted October 20, 2022 Share #8 Posted October 20, 2022 I'm glad Sam was able to take a look at your car. He's a good guy. As for springs, I am currently running Suspension Techniques, along with KYB struts. Overall, it lowered my car by about an inch. Going to coil-overs will provide you with greater adjustment, but might be a bit of overkill unless you plan to track the car. Below is a good write-up on strut and spring options.
