New clutch issue 280z

I looked at your pictures before but didn't catch the difference between the two.  I only looked at the first.  Your first picture must be with the pedal down, slave rod extended.  It is close to what mine was, at rest.  Your second picture must be at at rest, clutch pedal up.  And the distance is small, indicating a tall clutch collar.

I'd still do what ha been recommended and make sure that you have some play at the pedal.  You want to be sure that the MC is all the way back and that the pedal is not applying any force to it.

But it sure does look like you might have a tall collar where you should have a short one.

Here is mine at rest, from that thread I linked.  It looks like yours with the pedal down.

This photo looks like it was taken with clutch disengaged (pedal  up). Can you push the rod into the slave cylinder with the palm of your hand on the clutch fork?

Is the clutch fork against the housing? Engine side of the fork hitting the opening in the bellhousing.

You should be able to push it in some. Maybe 1/8" to 1/2". If not then there is your problem. Like Zed Head said, with the wrong throwout bearing collar the slave cylinder push rod will bottom out and not let the clutch fully engage.

Yep, sounds like that is the solution. I still scratch my chin trying to decipher the invoice as to what you purchased based on the applications listed. I remember many, many years ago we swapped a 280 clutch and it didnt work. The problem had something to do with it being a 2+2 clutch. I was a teen at the time, and dont recall the exact details, except that Dad wasn't happy with the parts place.  That was probably close to 40 years ago!

If you remove the slave and there is still pressure on the arm, something aint right. Really isnt that hard to drop the tranny. Post up what you find!

The 2+2 NA ZX and the ZXT both had a 240mm clutch the earlier and 2+0 NA ZX had a 225mm clutch. That kit reads to me like it fits both. To me that would mean Z Car Source was selling all 240mm clutches in the "kit" as they will fit the earlier cars, but not the other way around. IE: a 225mm clutch would not work well in the 2+2 or Turbo ZX.

If you are dropping the transmission again ^^ it would be another item to check, 225mm vs 240mm. I put a 240mm in my 70 240, and used the ZX 2+2 collar, works fine.
