Need ideas changing my mirrors

Silver-240Z

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just picked a 240Z that other than the hideous mirrors is beautiful and in mint condition. The previous owner took years to build this car and really took care of it. Unfortunately his taste in mirrors and how he chose to install them is at the very least, questionable. I've looked into removing the mirror plates and having body shops repairing the rivets and filling the holes. Unfortunately non of the shops guarantee the outcome will be good and want around $1000 for the job. I've also considered replacing the upper window frame but cant find any new or in excellent condition. So now I'm considering keeping the window plates but cutting them down substantially and only dealing with filling two holes left from the rivets instead of five. I'm thinking using MZR type mirrors with smaller footprint that would cover most of the area of the cut down plate. What do you think of the idea and what style mirrors would you use? Thanks!

There's a pair for 50 buck posted in Facebook Marketplace.  With a bit of elbow work, these frames can be polished on a near chrome luster.

I'd also recommend replacing the door glass run felt.  A roll is under 20 dollars.

I personally like to look of stock mirrors and pleased to see a car with a matching pair.

I agree with you on the original Z chrome mirrors mounted on the door. That's what I would have preferred in the first place. Only reason I wanted the MZR type non-carbon looking mirrors was because of their small foot print would work on the plates where the OEM mirrors would look super odd mounted the same place. BTW I cant find the upper window frame link on FB. Can you send me a direct link? Thanks!
