I just changed it about a month ago before I started on a rather lengthy round of blasting all of the black parts for the car I am restoring. The only time most mechanics even think about the shop air compressor is when they need air, and there isn’t any. Usually, at that point, it is too late. April 12, 20231 yr comment_652454 I believe the un-mentioned issue so far is moisture. Have you routinely drained the water from the bleed valve? If you look at the tank you will like find a "Best before" date like on your milk. Compressed air cylinders have a safe working life limit as well. 27 years is likely stretching that a bit, but I think I have milk in the basement fridge that might be that old..... I am not good at draining from the tank. It's more of a pain to do than it should be, so I tend to ignore it. I probably drain it about twice a year on average. I need to do something to make it less of pain, maybe put a shallow pan underneath with an outlet in a good location. Right now, where the compressor is located, when I open the drain valve, the water runs toward a wall in my shop and gets the base of the wall wet. The lines are easy to drain. I drain them frequently. I drain them frequently. I plumbed s small spigot from the bottom of my air tanks (I have 3) out to where they are easy to get to. I also made platforms for the tanks, so they are off the shop floor about 4”. Looks like I should investigate API CC SAE and ISO 100 - consult my compressor manual and may need to remove and replace the $44 dollars worth of oil I just put in recently. I'll investigate.
