Posted April 7, 20231 yr comment_652238 As my winter project wraps up, am about to put motor back into my Z(12/70). Had removed the water pump to clean and inspect. Other than some numbers (579) I was unable to find any OEM markings on the water pump. Is there any way to determine if it’s original? April 7, 20231 yr comment_652247 How about a picture of the impeller? The other side. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/68257-original-water-pump/#findComment-652247 Share on other sites
April 7, 20231 yr Author comment_652250 Well, it’s looks like it’s not original.. Just found a pic of an original one, showing the impeller is cast, whereas mine isn’t. Have a new Aisin pump on the shelf just in case, may as well replace the non original one now. April 7, 20231 yr comment_652253 For reference here are a few pics of mine (pump and markings) on the engine from my 7/70. And some trivia as well.🙂 I replaced mine in 1983 with one I purchased from my local Datsun dealership, I learned today that it's actually likely a 280ZX water pump based on what I can tell from the part number (21010-P7526) on the receipt that I still have. It is a backwards compatible OEM part with the manufacturer name, Atsugi, cast in. The original is long gone, it succumbed to the weight of the original metal clutch fan. The history of Atsugi is quite interesting, it started out as part of Nissan to later become part of Hitachi's auto parts division. Here is a snippet from a Hitachi automotive systems history web page, see the link below for more, if you're interested. https://www.hitachiastemo.com/en/corporate/history/automotive/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/68257-original-water-pump/#findComment-652253 Share on other sites
April 7, 20231 yr Author comment_652260 Great info. Thanks. Had hoped it was original, since car has low miles, but not the case.. The lack of a name and impeller raised suspicion. Still running the metal fan. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/68257-original-water-pump/#findComment-652260 Share on other sites
