Opinions on those Clear Headlight Covers... for an Z

Update:

I called Tynan's Nissan here in Colorado, and I had the parts guy do a national search for the clear headlight covers for older Z cars.

Nissan used to make them, and now they only have the "RIGHT" side covers! and they stopped making the LEFT side.

But I got ahold of a guy in Colorado who is an huge Z car nut, and he said there is one company he can get them from for a total of $200! He would not tell me where he would get them, but he can get them for me.

So if anyone is interested in spending $200 on some clear headlight covers with chrome trim, let me know and I can give you his phone number.

Other than that... Nissan has seized production :( and no longer has left side covers

As I wrote before the prices at Courtesy a couple of years ago where $120 a piece, so 200 bucks for the two is “cheap”.

Hello All,

Therefore, just figured I'd jump in and post a link to a Japanese site - where "I think" they have a pair for sale (But what do I know as I can't read Japanese)

Cheers,

Hi Guus,

Yes - the "Datsun Compe." steering wheel is a straight bolt-on to the early S30-series Z cars. You would not have any problem there. It even has all the horn mechanism and indicator cancelling device that the standard wheel has.

Just a word of advice about the website links posted above. "Datsun Freeway" used to be "Japan Datsun Service", and is a very well known company in Japan amongst early Z owners. You might find that some of the things they show on their web pages are no longer available, as they are in many cases 'one-off' or limited quantity NOS parts. Its a case of first-come first-served.

I'm not saying its the case with all of the parts they have on there - but like most business websites, updates don't come as quick as we might ideally like.

They have some English language pages on their website as far as I remember.

Good luck,

Alan T.

Thanks Alan, I’ll give it a try and will inform if they still got it.

There’s no price at it, so that will be a question too.

You’re just like the ghost in the bottle, call his name and he will appear! Great! :classic:

I just happened to be watching this thread Guus. Don't expect it to work every time!

I really ought to be WORKING on my computer instead of dropping in here every now and then for a 'tea break'.....:classic:

I used to love that pic, but now, the more I look at it...

it tears me up inside.. I think it doesn't keep the Z's classic look.. just not a huge fan of it.

But good luck with that! I say about maybe.... $900 maybe $1,200 for the molding, and nice projectors.

EDit.. I take that back.. maybe $800.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I just got a set in from MotorSport Auto....

They supplied double sided foam tape, and extra screws in case I wanted to screw them in... with 6 mounting brakets.

it came with crappy instructions, and a horribly "off" template which you could cut out and line up... which was crap.

Holy $^!#... that took me about 4 hours to get them to match up right.. and the double sided tape they supplied was fairly weak, so I bought some stronger double sided foam tape at Home Depot.

Anyway... you have to let the adhesive set for about 24 hours for it fully cure, but naturally after 24 hours, when I tried screwing in the covers, the tape popped of... :(

It is a bitch to put them on, and the 3 metal brackets in each headlight are horribly ugly.

Also after I thought it was sealed up correctly, it rained and it leaked... so I took everything off and tried it again.

My overall opinion... they are a hassle to put on, have ugly brackets, are expensive and really don't show a huge difference with the front end.

I will have pics soon.... but I am not to pleased with them.
