Hi all ‘74 260Z here.

I would like to replace the thermostat housing, water temp sensor, thermostat w new. As you can see in the image, the old housing has a tube/hose to the manifold (a/c connections have been removed by PO), and the new housing has provisions to drill and thread the same tube/hose. I’m not sure if I should keep the old tube connected - drill/thread, or ignore it and plug the hole going to the manifold. I’m replacing the components because the temperatures are reading poorly since I purchased the car.

That coolant hose going to the intake manifold I believe helps warm up the incoming gas, helps atomize it on cold mornings, the earlier cars didn't have that and they work fine.

@kickstand80This is a 260 with carbs not sure they had a AAR housing like EFI. But who knows….

Thanks for the insight. Planning on removing the hose going to the intake manifold plugging. I’m in NJ and do not plan on driving the car in the winter. Also I don’t see the AAR anywhere.

Heat.  The bolts typically rust in the bores and rust expands when it is formed.  Heat the aluminum to get it to grow and it will help break the bond.

If a bolt breaks it will probably be just the head and upper shaft.  The housing will still be stuck on the rusty part.  Once you get the housing off the remainder of the bolt will probably come by hand.
